The importance of Lie algebras and Lie groups for applied
mathematics and for physics has become increasingly evident in recent years.
The Lie theory has become a powerful tool for studying differential equations
, , , , special functions , , , classical and quantum mechanics, perturbation theory , atomic spectroscopy , nuclear physics
, , eleraentary particle physics , ,  and solid state physics .
Moreover, recent. work in pattern recognition has used the Lie theory to advantage. The conteinporary literature on the applications of the Lie theory uses
